ME News Report, April 28 (UTC+8), according to six sources, NATO is considering ending its recent practice of holding an annual summit. Since 2021, NATO leaders have held meetings every summer, and they are scheduled to gather again in Ankara, Turkey, from July 7 to 8 this year. However, a senior European official and five diplomats (all from NATO member countries) revealed that some member states are actively pushing to slow down the pace of these summits. One diplomat stated that the summit originally scheduled to be held in Albania in 2027 is likely to be postponed to that fall; additionally, NATO is also considering completely canceling the summit in 2028 — which is the year of the U.S. presidential election and also the last full calendar year of Trump’s term.
