Actually, after some thought, we really should stop using the terms L1 and L2 to describe layers. This classification divides the ecosystem, leading people to mistakenly think that the second-layer networks are independent entities. But in reality? All these scaling solutions, sidechains, and Layer 2 solutions are ultimately part of the Ethereum ecosystem. Whether it's Arbitrum, Optimism, or other solutions, their security and liquidity ultimately point to the same thing—Ethereum. Instead of fixating on the label Layer 2, it's better to see them all as different application layers within the Ethereum ecosystem. A unified narrative would be clearer and better reflect the true situation. There is only one Ethereum; the others are just extensions of it.
