Deep Tide TechFlow News. On April 27, Canada’s “C-25 Strong and Free Election Act” passed its second reading in Parliament and entered the committee review stage, with a proposal to prohibit the use of cryptocurrencies for political donations. The bill classifies crypto assets together with promissory notes, prepaid payment instruments, and other similar items as “funding sources that are difficult to trace,” applies to political parties, candidates, and third-party campaign advertising agencies, and requires that any illegal donations be refunded or turned over to the treasury within 30 days. Previously, Canada allowed crypto donations starting in 2019, but actual use has been limited; the UK has implemented a similar ban, while the US still allows crypto political donations.
