U.S. sanctions have forced Iran to take extreme measures to continue oil production

Odaily Planet Daily News: Due to the U.S. imposing a blockade on Iranian ports, Iran is unable to ship oil to customers, and empty oil tankers cannot dock to load cargo, resulting in a continuing buildup of its oil inventory. To prevent some oil fields from shutting down, Iran has begun storing oil on floating oil tankers. However, according to current and former Iranian officials, this country, which relies heavily on oil exports for most of its revenue, is now adopting methods it had not used before to save on storage space. These officials said that Iranian authorities are using containers and “makeshift storage facilities,” meaning they are storing oil in abandoned storage tanks with poor conditions in the southern oil hubs of Aahvaz and Asaluyeh.
