I just saw that a16z has closed a massive fundraising of more than 150 billion dollars. Let me put this into context: we’re talking about 18% of all venture capital moved in the US in 2025. It’s an absolutely staggering number.

The portfolio of this fund is well diversified. They have the American Power Fund with $1.176 billion, the Applied Fund and the Infrastructure Fund with $1.7 billion each, then the Biology and Health Fund with $700 million, the Growth Fund with $6.75 billion, and another $3 billion in other venture capital strategies.

But the most interesting part is the narrative behind all of this. Ben Horowitz made it very clear what a16z’s bet is for the next 100 years: artificial intelligence and cryptocurrencies. According to him, these are the two critical technological architectures that will shape the future. And the company is literally putting money where its mouth is, concentrating heavy investments in these areas.

What I find particularly relevant is the geopolitical argument. Horowitz isn’t just talking about business opportunities. He is explicitly warning that if the US loses global leadership in AI and cryptocurrencies, the consequences will go far beyond the financial market. We’re talking about impacts on the country’s economic, military, and cultural advantages.

And it’s not just pure investment. a16z wants to apply these technologies in sectors such as biology, health, defense, public security, education, and entertainment. In other words, it’s not only about speculative gains, but about systemic transformation. This shows how a16z sees these markets evolving over the coming years.
