Cardano is about to experience a very intense semester in technical terms. I just reviewed the latest reports from the development team and it seems that the network is preparing for two major updates arriving in the first half of 2026. The interesting thing is that both will significantly transform how Cardano functions in terms of scalability and infrastructure. The first is Ouroboros Leios, the scalability solution that the team has been refining for quite some time. According to data circulating in the community, the dedicated Leios testnet should arrive around June, confirmed by Carlos Lopez de Lara, who leads product at Input Output Group. What really catches attention here are the preliminary simulations showing Ouroboros' potential. We’re talking about the network potentially reaching between 200 and 1,000 transactions per second depending on the size of each transaction. If they implement the Linear Leios version, they could even surpass those figures. In January, they finalized the Ouroboros Linear Leios CIP, which is basically the technical blueprint to make all this possible. To focus on this, Cardano made an interesting decision: they paused the development of Acropolis and canceled the implementation of tiered pricing. That freed up 4.1 million ADA that goes back to the ecosystem treasury, so it’s a pretty clear shift in priorities. The second project is the Van Rossem hard fork, scheduled for late June. This update will introduce version 11 of the protocol with improvements in Plutus performance, ledger consistency, and node security. What’s different here is that Van Rossem does not require transitioning to a new era, which greatly simplifies its integration compared to other hard forks. The hard fork committee has been monitoring everything regularly. Overall, what I see is that Cardano is making a serious move toward real scalability. Ouroboros represents a fundamental change in how the network handles throughput, and that could shift the conversation about where Cardano positions itself in the ecosystem. Definitely worth paying attention to how these updates develop in the coming months.
