I’ve found that the easiest thing to drive you crazy at the end of the year isn’t whether you’re losing or winning—it’s, “Where exactly did this money come from, and where did it go…” So now, every time I cross-chain or exchange coins, I leave a trail: I save an export of the transaction history from the exchange first, and then on-chain I drop the txhash, the timestamp, and the note from that moment (for example, “going to clock in at a certain ecosystem” or “which bridge I took and how much I saved”) into a spreadsheet. In plain terms, it’s leaving clues for my future self.

Recently, that mainstream public chain is going to upgrade/maintain, and people in the group have been speculating whether the project might migrate. I’m actually more nervous about recording this part: things like before-and-after the bridge, or the same-named assets switching to different addresses—when you go back to reconcile later, those are the easiest to end up mismatched. I need to be reminded: don’t think it’s too much trouble. If you skip one entry today, you might end up having to stay up an extra night by the end of the year. Anyway, I’m not endorsing any project—what I can do is keep my own path clear, so if something goes wrong, it’s easier to explain.
