I recently came across an interesting detail from the investigation into the Libra token in Argentina. It turns out that when forensic experts examined the seized phones, they found that most of the conversations related to this case had been completely deleted. Specifically, messages between key individuals like Mauricio Novelli, Manuel Terrones Godoy, and Sergio Morales were empty or entirely erased. Even the WhatsApp groups they participated in no longer contain any data.
The most notable point is that Novelli also deleted all messages sent to his mother. This woman is said to have entered a bank branch and withdrew all contents from a safety deposit box just one day after Libra was launched. This has raised numerous suspicions about possible coordination throughout the process. Although experts discovered some data that could potentially be recovered through legal extraction, most of the content has been permanently lost.
Many messages between President Milei and Novelli have also been identified, but the content remains confidential because prosecutors have not yet fully released the appendices. This leaves the public only able to speculate about what happened behind the scenes. Milei continuously denies any direct responsibility, even comparing losing money from Libra to gambling losses, saying that everyone is aware of the risks.
But what many are concerned about is why all messages needed to be deleted if everything was legal? The appearance of these deleted messages only increases public suspicion about how the token was launched and managed. The investigation is still ongoing, and we will have to wait to see whether the deleted data can be fully recovered.
