U.S. President Trump stated on the 26th that he maintains contact with both Russian President Putin and Ukrainian President Zelensky. That day, Trump gave an interview on Fox News Channel’s television program Sunday Briefing, and when asked about the time of his most recent communication with Putin, Trump refused to disclose it but claimed that he maintains “good communication” with both Putin and Zelensky. Trump also said that claims that Putin and Zelensky “hate each other” are “ludicrous” and “crazy.”

Earlier this month, U.S. government officials revealed that the U.S. intends to invite Putin to attend the Group of Twenty (G20) summit scheduled to be held in Miami, the U.S., this December. Since the full escalation of the Ukraine crisis in 2022, Putin has been absent from G20 summits, with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov attending in his place. According to reports from Azerbaijani media, during Zelensky’s visit to Azerbaijan on the 25th, Zelensky proposed holding Ukraine-Russia negotiations in Azerbaijan. Some analyses suggest that this is the first time in months that Ukraine has raised a similar request, indicating a major shift from Ukraine’s previous stance of insisting that Russian troops withdraw first from Luhansk and other regions before carrying out substantive negotiations. The Russian side has not responded to this yet.
