Pakistani veteran journalist Absal Alam Haider posted on social media in the early hours of the 27th that Iran’s Foreign Minister Alaghazi visited Pakistan’s capital Islamabad again that day because Oman had put forward an important proposal. Absal Alam wrote, “The turning point” occurred during Alaghazi’s meeting with the Omani side. Oman proposed that, whatever new mechanism is established regarding the Strait of Hormuz, Saudi Arabia should be included. Diplomatic sources said that once Saudi Arabia is brought in, Qatar would also be considered. According to the post, Alaghazi therefore changed his itinerary mid-course, returning to Islamabad to hand over a proposal to the Pakistani side that serves as an intermediary between the US and Iran. The proposal concerns the conditions for countries along the Strait of Hormuz to build a new security cooperation mechanism.

Alaghazi set off for Pakistan on the 24th, and then met with Oman Sultan Haaseim in Muscat, the Omani capital, on the 26th. His next scheduled stop was Russia. However, on the evening of the 26th, Alaghazi arrived in Islamabad again to meet with the Pakistani side, then left late that night for Russia. Alaghazi confirmed on social media that during his visit to Oman, he discussed ways to ensure safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz with the Pakistani side.

According to Saudi Arabian News Agency, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal called Alaghazi on the 26th, and he also spoke with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed. ( Xinhua News Agency )
