When will this madness end?!

"First Trillionaire: On Friday, Elon Musk's wealth will surpass that of South Africa and Sweden"!

Above is a headline worth reading in "Yedioth"... and from it:

"A trillion dollars is a million times a million dollars. If someone spent a million dollars every hour of every day, it would take him more than a century to spend a trillion dollars. Meanwhile, the average American family (with an income of $83,730 in 2024) would have to work for more than 11 million years to reach that amount."

Even before his wealth reached a trillion dollars, Musk could have bought 2.4 million American homes; he could have purchased all NFL and NBA teams combined, with more than $500 billion left over; he could have bought a fleet of over 10,000 private jets and financed their operation, including fuel, for five years; he could have bought companies that employ over 4 million people, such as FedEx, Home Depot, UPS, Target, and Starbucks. Musk's net worth today is about 3% of the US gross domestic product. Accordingly, he is much richer than John F. Rockefeller, who was the richest American ever before Musk. Rockefeller amassed a fortune estimated at around $1.4 billion by 1937, which was about 1.5% of the US GDP at that time.

"To understand the magnitude of this wealth, here is a brief list of things that will soon— or perhaps already—be worth less than Elon Musk: the economies of most countries in the world (according to the International Monetary Fund, the economic size of 20 countries does not exceed $1.1 trillion). Among the countries Musk might suddenly be able to buy: Taiwan ($977 billion), Ireland ($779 billion), Sweden ($760 billion), and his homeland South Africa ($480 billion)." (End).

If it were limited to one person, it would be tolerable, but the phenomenon of extreme wealth among a handful of people is much greater.

It is a time of madness... and it cannot last long.
