The U.S. 30-year fixed mortgage rate fell from 6.69% to 6.67%, ending five consecutive weeks of increases. Put simply, it dropped by only 2 basis points—more like a breather than a trend reversal. The underlying data is indeed improving: July nonfarm payrolls fell by 23k, year-on-year CPI declined to 3.4%, and core CPI also eased to 2.5%.
