#VitalikUnveilsLeanEthereum
Vitalik’s “Lean Ethereum” roadmap could be a huge deal Ethereum has had some important updates in the past years. But I feel like this new roadmap is different than other updates, because they didn’t focus on one issue only. Instead they decided to take a look at the network as a whole and asking what the purpose of ethereum should be over the next decade.
Vitalik's vision of Lean Ethereum is very ambitious, with more fast finalized transactions, extremely cheap fees, higher privacy, better scaling and even readiness for the coming of quantum computing.
If most of the roadmap is achieved in the coming years, Ethereum will be way more performant without impacting the decentralization. The most interesting feature for me is the potential of reducing fees more than tenfold! Lower costs for transactions means better adoption in DeFI, Gaming, NFTs and any other application running on ethereum. Combined with increase state space, the bottleneck will be removed to a large extent.
However, a roadmap is one thing and the execution another.
Major updates of Ethereum have always took years and that is logical considering that every day more than a billion dollars are running on the network and no one would risk putting these funds into an untested product. I personally see this as a long-term bullish update rather than an immediate impact. When the people start using the features that actually will come in few years from now and not the hype generated by the news alone, we’ll know.
If this roadmap is well executed, I think Ethereum will continue to be number 1 for the next era of web3 and will be the best choice for a smart contract platform for a long time.
