ME News Report, May 18 (UTC+8), Verus officially announced that the Verus-Ethereum cross-chain bridge was attacked on May 18, with the attacker stealing assets such as ETH, USDC, and tBTC from the Ethereum contract. Currently, other assets on the bridge remain unaffected. The official stated that due to the attack, the Verus network has been temporarily suspended, and most block-producing nodes have voluntarily gone offline as designed. The development team is investigating the attack vector, confirming the scope of the losses, and formulating subsequent response plans. Meanwhile, Verus urges the attacker to voluntarily return the funds and states that if the funds are fully reimbursed, the team is willing to pay a bug bounty and will not pursue further legal action; otherwise, they will cooperate with relevant law enforcement agencies to take legal action. The team also reminds users to beware of scams impersonating the official offering "compensation plans," stating that there are currently no official compensation schemes, and users should not interact with related private message accounts.
