Many times, you think the problem is that emotions are off, but it may actually be that your body was the first to go wrong. The gut is known as the second brain, and through the gut-brain axis it can affect our emotions, energy, and how we feel stress. I can’t say that gut microbiota determines a person’s life, but when someone’s emotional state changes, the way they see the world and the way they make choices really can change too. So later on, I increasingly felt that depression-resistance isn’t just a psychological issue—it may also be a rebuilding of the body’s systems. Many times, it’s not that you suddenly start to love life; it’s that your body finally has the capacity to experience life again.
