According to Beating Monitoring, in a recent interview with Bloomberg, Dario Amodei, CEO and co-founder of Anthropic, publicly discussed for the first time the trigger that led his team to leave OpenAI that year.

In Dario's view, the common explanation for the split between the two companies is a disagreement over safety philosophies, but this is a misinterpretation. The real trigger was the complete breakdown of trust in Sam Altman. "When you feel you can't trust someone, when you think their values are inconsistent and not sincere enough, collaboration becomes impossible. In a team lacking trust and a shared vision, the best solution is to gracefully part ways and develop independently."

Compared to OpenAI, where executive turnover is frequent, Anthropic demonstrates extremely high personnel stability. Since its founding, none of the original seven co-founders have left, which is a rare case among similarly sized Silicon Valley tech giants.
