Today I want to share my real experience trading BTC contracts.

It's not some fancy analysis, just the pitfalls I personally encountered, hoping to give some reference to those who are hesitating or new to contracts.

Last year, BTC started to pull back from $100,000.
When I looked at the candlestick charts, I thought it was already oversold, and on-chain whales didn't show obvious selling, so I judged a short-term rebound was coming.
So I opened a long position with 5x leverage, accounting for 25% of my total funds.
At first, the price fluctuated slightly, and I felt pretty confident, thinking my analysis was correct.

What happened then?
The Federal Reserve Chair suddenly made a hawkish speech, and the market panicked.
BTC plummeted nearly 8% in one day.
I watched the price drop, palms sweaty, trying to close the position, but it was too late—liquidation hit me directly.
I lost about 15% of my account.
At that moment, sitting in front of my computer, my mind went blank—I really wanted to curse myself for being so stupid.

Afterward, I pulled out all my trading records and reviewed them for several days.
I realized the problems were actually pretty silly:

First, even though the leverage was only 5x, the position size was too large, and even small fluctuations couldn’t be handled;

Second, I had no stop-loss set, trading purely on gut feeling;

Third, I underestimated the impact of macro news on the crypto market.
I used to think "the crypto world is independent," but now I see that was just self-deception.

Now I’ve changed my strategy:
Leverage is limited to 3-5x,
each trade’s position is strictly controlled within 10% of total funds,
and I must set stop-loss and take-profit orders in advance.
I also learned to hedge part of my position with spot trading, reducing overall risk significantly.
Although I lost money that time,

I believe what I learned is more valuable than the money I lost—
trading isn’t about who predicts better, but about who can survive longer.

A genuine tip for newcomers:
Don’t start with high leverage right away.
Practice with small funds, treat losses as tuition.
The market is always smarter than you; don’t expect to turn things around in one shot.

My real experience tells me that those who stick to risk management are most likely to survive in the long run.
