According to Beating Monitoring, Igor Babuschkin, co-founder of xAI and a former employee of OpenAI and Google DeepMind, announced the launch of the artificial intelligence startup River AI, developing personalized AI agents that can learn from users and be controlled by users to enhance human capabilities rather than replace human jobs.

In addition to Igor Babuschkin, River AI’s founding team also includes several former employees of xAI. Vincent Stark was responsible for xAI product security until December 2025, Lily Lim serves as General Counsel, and the brothers Ievgen Soboliev and Dmytro Soboliev were xAI engineers. River AI will provide API interfaces for third parties to build AI models, helping personalized intelligent agents achieve continuous learning, and plans to expand into the fields of hardware and physical infrastructure.

Since xAI merged with SpaceX, dozens of employees and nearly all co-founders have resigned one after another. Musk has promised to rebuild xAI during SpaceX’s preparations for a public listing. Outside of River AI, several departing xAI members have also founded new companies, such as the AI laboratory Humans& co-founded by Eric Zelikman and Yuchen He.
