According to The New York Times, a Canadian man, Trenton Johnston, was pulled over in the United States in Miami for speeding in a Rolls-Royce, which led to a cryptocurrency fraud and money laundering case. U.S. prosecutors said Johnston obtained access to victims’ accounts by impersonating representatives of Google and a crypto company. Over two years, he stole approximately $13 million and used the funds for a lavish lifestyle including nightclub outings, jewelry, luxury cars, and private jets. Johnston is 20 years old and has pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering in Miami federal court. Court documents show that he previously tricked a California resident into revealing 185 BTC, valued at about $13 million.
