According to Kyodo News Japan on the 23rd, a forest fire occurred in Otsuchi Town, Iwate Prefecture, on the 22nd. As of 6 a.m. on the 23rd, the burned area had reached over 200 hectares, and 7 buildings were damaged by the fire. All primary and secondary schools in the town have suspended classes. By the afternoon of the 23rd, local authorities had issued evacuation instructions to more than 2,500 residents. The Japanese government dispatched the Self-Defense Forces to participate in firefighting efforts, but the fire has not yet been brought under control. Additionally, due to a 7.7 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the northeastern waters of Japan on the 20th, the Japan Meteorological Agency issued subsequent earthquake alerts for 182 cities and towns across 7 prefectures, including Iwate.
