NEAR at $4.8—are you chasing it?
The ETF was just approved, Intents usage has exploded, and NEAR fell back from 5.2 to 4.8—but with the monthly chart up 150%, if you go long now, are you catching the tail end or catching a falling knife?
Look at the surface first: one bullish catalyst after another, yet the price still fell first.
On September 24, the Bitwise NEAR spot ETF was approved, listed on NYSE Arca under the ticker NRR, with 100% staking. On the same day, Intents’ cumulative trading volume surpassed $30 billion, with $846 million in 7 days. Ondo’s tokenized stocks went live on near com, allowing cross-chain purchases of Nvidia, Tesla, and Apple. Hyperliquid listed NEAR spot and perpetuals, bringing leveraged traders straight in.
And then? The price touched 5.21 before turning around and crashing to 4.8.
Are you confused? With so many bullish catalysts, why is it still falling?
First: the ETF is bullish, but don’t mistake “approved” for “launched.”
The SEC’s final effectiveness and the launch date have not yet been set. The market is trading expectations now, not actual net inflows.
Look at the history of BTC ETFs—the approval day is often the short-term emotional peak. The real rally comes after several weeks of post-launch inflow data.
NEAR’s ETF does not even have a launch date yet. If you rush in, you are betting that “others will FOMO harder than you.”
Before the bullish catalyst materializes, the price has already completed that leg of the rally. This is the most expensive lesson in crypto—how many more times will you pay tuition?
Second: Intents has real usage, but you need to see where the fees are going.
$30 billion in cumulative volume, $846 million in 7 days, and $116 million in 24 hours—this is not wash trading; people are actually using it.
Chain abstraction, privacy execution, confidential derivatives, and AI-agent settlement—NEAR is targeting the role of a “settlement layer.” That is more substantial than L1s that only know how to shout about TPS.
But here is the question: how much of these fees is being converted into token buybacks?
“After the Intents fee switch, protocol revenue will be used for buybacks.” Sounds good. But its circulating market cap is already $6.3 billion, ranking 18th—it is not cheap.
Exploding usage is a good thing, but the price has already priced in that good news. Buying now means betting that “usage will continue to explode + funds will rush in after the ETF launches,” with both expectations being fulfilled simultaneously.
Third: the chart tells you that 4.8 is not cheap—it is simply the first stop after falling from 5.2.
From the February low of 0.83 to 5.21, the monthly chart has risen 150%+. The daily RSI once surged to 88, indicating extreme overbought conditions. It has now fallen to 52–55; overheating is easing, but it is not oversold.
All the moving averages are still far below, so the trend is bullish. But the short-term moving averages are beginning to converge, the MACD histogram is shrinking, and momentum is slowing.
Remember these key levels:
Strong resistance: 5.00–5.21. If it cannot break through, this would be the outline of a double top.
First support: 4.60–4.80. It is being tested today.
Second support: 4.20–4.35. This was the consolidation zone before the ETF news; a pullback here would be healthier.
Trend defense: 3.50–3.80. A loss of this level would damage the structure of the main rally.
4.8 is not “already cheap”; it is “the first stop after falling from 5.2.” If you go long here, place your stop-loss at 4.15 and calculate the risk/reward ratio yourself.
You decide after looking at the bull-bear battle
On one side:
The ETF channel is open, allowing traditional capital to enter
Intents’ real usage has exploded; it is not just empty hype
Tokenomics are improving: 2.5% inflation, fee burning, and buybacks
The weekly uptrend structure remains intact, with bullish moving-average alignment
On the other side:
The monthly chart is up 150%, with massive short-term profit-taking pressure
The ETF launch date has not been set, and expectations could fall short
The macro environment is tight: the Federal Reserve just raised rates, and the dot plot is hawkish
If BTC breaks below 82k, NEAR’s follow-on drop could come quickly
If perpetual funding rates remain strongly positive, longs will become crowded and the pullback could be sharper
Trading strategy
General principle: bullish in the medium term, but do not chase in the short term. Use 3–5x leverage; anything above 10x is essentially betting on liquidation.
For those already holding long positions (entered below 3 or below 4):
Reduce the position by 1/3 to 1/2 and lock in profits.
Move the stop-loss on the remainder up to 4.35–4.50.
If it reclaims 5.05 and holds it for four hours, add back part of the position and target 5.5–6.0.
Do not use unrealized profits to increase leverage.
For those with no position who want to go long:
Do not chase directly at 4.8. Wait for one of two entry setups:
A pullback to 4.20–4.40, declining volume on the sell-off, and a four-hour close back above the moving averages.
A high-volume reclaim and hold above 5.05, confirming the breakout.
Initial stop-loss below 4.15. For a breakout trade, place the stop-loss at the failed retest of 4.85.
Targets: first 5.15–5.25, second 5.80–6.10.
Risk per trade should not exceed 2% of your capital.
For those wanting to short/hedge:
This is only suitable for short-term trades; do not fight the weekly trend.
You can try a short if a rebound to 5.05–5.20 is rejected, targeting 4.60/4.35.
Keep the stop-loss strictly above 5.28.
If the daily chart closes back above 5.10, exit the short immediately.
Scenarios for the next 1–2 weeks:
Base case: range-bound consolidation between 4.3 and 5.2 while waiting for the ETF launch date or a second volume expansion.
Bullish case: quickly reclaim 5.2 and rally to 6.
Bearish case: break below 4.2 and retest the 3.8–3.5 breakout zone. The medium-term bullish trend remains intact, but the short term will be painful.
NEAR rose from 0.83 to 5.2 and you did not get in; now it has fallen from 5.2 to 4.8 and you ask whether you can chase it? You do not want to make money—you want to chase pumps and sell dumps without admitting it.
The ETF approval is bullish, but before the bullish catalyst materializes, the price has already completed that leg of the rally.
Intents usage is real, but you are not buying the dip; you are giving early players their year-end bonus.
The weekly chart is still in an ascending channel, but your perpetual position may not survive until the next wave.
At 4.8, are you brave enough to chase it?
