Tether Gold Adds 1.66 Tons in Q2 While Spot Gold Declines
Tether Gold (XAU₮) increased its reserves by 9.5% in the quarter. The product took in a 53,225 tokens, which is about 1.66 tons of gold raising total holdings to 707,747 troy ounces or about 22.01 tons. At values the position is close to $2.84 billion. The buying happened while the price of gold itself went down 14.1% during the three months.
Demand Against a Falling Price
The difference is the point of the quarter. Spot gold went down than 14% but the tokenized product kept getting more money. This shows that buyers used the prices to get more of the product instead of waiting for prices to go up. The result is a physical-backed position bought at a lower average cost compared to the start of the period.
Half-Year Context
In the six months of the year Tether’s total gold purchases were about 27.1 tons. That amount is already higher than the gold purchases of some central banks during similar periods. A company’s tokenized gold product is therefore taking in gold at a level that is equal to or bigger than what some official groups are buying.
Current Footprint
With 22.01 tons now backing XAU₮ and a value of around $2.84 billion the product has a place in the tokenized gold market. The addition of 1.66 tons in Q2 continues the growth that can be seen in the half-year totals.

Tether Gold increased by 9.5% in Q2 by adding 53,225 tokens while the price of the metal dropped 14.1%. Investors bought the prices. Total purchases for the half of the year of about 27.1 tons put the company’s gold buying ahead of several European central banks. The product now has 22.01 tons valued close, to $2.84 billion. The information shows that people keep buying the tokenized gold product even when the price is going down.
