I’ll explain what happened today and why Bitcoin has exploded in such a spectacular way.
The U.S. Treasury, led by Scott Bessent, saw the bond market collapsing, especially 10- and 30-year bonds (the latter exceeding 5.30% yields), and had to step in to the rescue today.
Their plan: double the size of bond buybacks, going from 2 trillion per operation to 4 trillion per operation. The plan will be implemented starting September 9.
What does this mean?
It is an indirect way of injecting liquidity. This is not quantitative easing, but it will have similar effects.
