ME News reports that on July 4 (UTC+8), the decentralized privacy protocol hinkal released the latest update on the recent security incident, confirming that an attacker exploited a vulnerability to withdraw approximately 797k USDC from an Ethereum smart contract, and exchanged all of it for 454 ETH, of which 410 ETH were subsequently transferred to Tornado Cash, and the remaining approximately 44.67 ETH were cross-chain transferred to the Bitcoin network via THORChain. The project team is currently working with external security agencies to continuously track the flow of the stolen funds. hinkal stated that this attack only affected the Ethereum chain's liquidity pool, and contracts on other public chains were not compromised; to fix the vulnerability and complete a comprehensive security audit, all contracts of the protocol have been temporarily suspended. Hinkal promises to fully compensate all affected users' funds at a 1:1 ratio, and the complete compensation process and implementation timeline will be announced separately. (Source: PANews)
