How does Gate Card achieve up to 8% cashback on spending? Analysis of the points system and benefits.

The value of digital assets lies not only in holding and trading, but also in whether they can be smoothly integrated into real-world consumption scenarios. From everyday shopping to online subscriptions, from cross-border payments to in-person spending, whether the digital assets in a user’s wallet can be directly used for payment has always been a central proposition for industry exploration.

On July 2, 2026, Gate officially launched the Gate Card points system. Built around three core capabilities—spending cashback, points redemption, and tier growth—it enables users to continuously accumulate points during their spending, redeem them for digital assets, and unlock higher-tier benefits as their spending grows.

From Holding to Spending: How Gate Card Connects the Payment Journey

Gate Card is a digital asset Visa card launched by Gate, directly linked to a Gate Pay payment account. Users do not need to convert digital assets such as USDT into fiat currency in advance; the system completes asset conversion and settlement when the transaction occurs. This means users’ on-chain assets can remain in their original form and are only called upon at the moment of purchase.

In the past, a single everyday purchase might require the following steps: transferring digital assets from the wallet to the trading account, selling them for fiat currency, withdrawing them to a bank account, and then completing the purchase through a traditional bank card. This chain could take hours to days and involves multiple fee charges. Gate Card compresses this entire process into a single step—just swipe the card or bind a digital wallet to complete it.

Currently, Gate Card supports four digital assets—USDT, BTC, ETH, and GT—for direct payments. If users hold these assets in their Gate Pay payment account, they can choose any one of them as the deduction source at the time of spending. The card limit is calculated based on the available asset balance in the Gate Pay payment account. Users can purchase digital assets through Gate’s buy crypto feature, or transfer digital assets from other wallets into their Gate account.

Six-Tier Cashback System: Spending Is Reward, and the Higher the Tier, the Bigger the Return

The core of the Gate Card points system is the T0–T5 six-tier cashback mechanism. Different tiers correspond to different points multipliers, cashback rates, monthly points limits, and monthly cashback limits.

| Card Tier | VIP Level | Minimum Monthly Spending (USD) | Points Multiplier/Cashback Rate | Monthly Points Limit | Monthly Cashback Limit | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | T0 | VIP 0 - VIP 4 | 0 | 1x / 1.00% | 500 | 5 U | | T1 | VIP 5 - VIP 7 | 500 | 1x / 1.00% | 5,000 | 50 U | | T2 | VIP 8 | 3,000 | 2x / 2.00% | 10,000 | 100 U | | T3 | VIP 9 | 6,000 | 3x / 3.00% | 15,000 | 150 U | | T4 | VIP 10 - VIP 12 | 10,000 | 5x / 5.00% | 25,000 | 250 U | | T5 | VIP 13 - VIP 14 | 15,000 | 8x / 8.00% | 40,000 | 400 U |

Eligible users can receive up to 8% spending cashback, with a maximum cashback of 150 USDT per transaction and a maximum monthly cashback of 400 USDT. The points multiplier determines how many points you can earn per USD spent—an 1x multiplier means earning 1 point for every USD 1 spent. Points can be redeemed for two digital assets: USDT and GT.

The points redemption ratio is fixed: 100 points = 1 USDT. For example, spending USD 100 earns 100 points, which can be redeemed for 1 USDT. Points are valid indefinitely, with no expiration limit.

Please note that the following transaction types do not participate in points accumulation:

  • Fiat currency payments
  • Non-spending transactions such as fees, management fees, deposits, and withdrawals
  • Orders that are canceled or refunded
  • Transactions in specific merchant category codes (MCC), including services from financial institutions, purchases of prepaid cards, foreign currency exchange, money orders, and traveler’s checks

Tier Growth Mechanism: Dual-Track Driving by VIP Status and Spending

Gate Card’s tier growth uses a dual-track model, determined by both the user’s Gate VIP level and their monthly spending amount.

The initial tier is determined by the user’s VIP level at the time of application. Users with VIP 5 and above directly enjoy the points multiplier and cashback benefits associated with their VIP level, without needing to meet the monthly minimum spending requirement.

Tier Rules for Users with VIP 5 and Above:

  • VIP status provides an exclusive guaranteed minimum points tier, and the points-earning multiplier will never be lower than the current VIP privileges; it is not affected by fluctuations in monthly spending
  • Users can challenge higher points tiers by increasing their spending; once unlocked, the new tier takes effect the following month
  • If subsequent spending does not meet the requirement, the tier drops back to the VIP guaranteed level rather than resetting to zero
  • When VIP status changes, the points tier is synchronized accordingly

Tier Rules for Users Below VIP 5:

  • Initially automatically receives T0 benefits
  • High-tier benefits can be unlocked after meeting the monthly spending threshold, taking effect the following month
  • If monthly spending fails to reach the threshold, the tier is reduced accordingly

Upgrade Effective-Date Rule: New tier benefits take effect at the start of the next calendar month and continue throughout the entire month.

Examples:

Scenario A: On March 20, a VIP 3 user opens the card for the first time, starting at T0. On March 25, they complete a USD 1,000 transaction, with transaction confirmation on March 28. On April 1, the card tier increases to T1.

Scenario B: On March 25, a VIP 8 user starts at T2 (2% cashback). On March 28, their VIP level increases to VIP 9. On April 1, the card tier increases to T3 (3% cashback). If the VIP 9 user spends USD 15,000 on April 25, they will unlock the T4 tier the following month—meaning that even if they lose VIP status on the same day, they can still enjoy T4 benefits through May 31.

Scenario C: On August 15, both VIP 4 and VIP 5 users spend USD 15,000. The following month, both unlock T4 (5% cashback). If the VIP 4 user’s spending in September is below USD 500, they drop to T0, while the VIP 5 user drops to T1 due to VIP protection.

Conclusion: Payment Means Accumulation, and Spending Means Growth

With the introduction of the Gate Card points system, digital-asset payments have evolved from a simple value-transfer tool into a spending gateway capable of continuous value accumulation.

The design of points with indefinite validity lets users patiently accumulate points without needing to redeem them within a limited time, thereby maximizing the overall value generated by spending activities. Redeemed assets are automatically allocated to the user-selected account, further simplifying the settlement process. Meanwhile, users can seamlessly switch among Yu’e Bao, Gate Pay, or spot balances as the funding source for Gate Card transactions.

From an industry perspective, the monthly spending volume of crypto payment cards reached between 500 million and 600 million USD in early 2026, with an annualized run rate exceeding 5 billion USD. In May 2026, the cumulative monthly transaction volume of crypto payment cards reached approximately 7.8 billion USD, representing an increase of about 230% compared with the same period last year. Digital assets are shifting from “holdable assets” to “spending tools.”

Gate Card is reshaping payments from simple fund transfers into an important gateway for continuous value accumulation. As the points system continues to iterate and more redeemable assets and benefits are expanded, the boundaries of how digital assets can be used in everyday consumption scenarios are being continually broadened.
