Google Cuts Quantum Estimate for Ethereum Account Security by 20x

A Google Quantum AI paper published in March 2026 cut the estimated hardware needed to break Ethereum account security by 20 times. The latest estimate is roughly 1,200 logical qubits, and Google set an internal 2029 deadline for migrating its own systems. The Ethereum Foundation formed a Post-Quantum Security team and is considering EIP-8141 for the Hegota hard fork planned for the second half of 2026.
