In the opening match of Group E at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Germany and Curaçao will face off tonight at 20:00 local time at NRG Stadium in Houston.
Julian Nagelsmann's team, the Panzer, comes into the tournament with high confidence and excellent form after preparing matches in 2026, beating Switzerland 4-3, Ghana 2-1, Finland 4-0, and most recently the USA 2-1. To forget the group stage disasters of the last two World Cups, all key players are fully ready for the match except for young talent Lennart Karl, who was injured and replaced by Assan Ouédraogo, and the experienced goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. The Caribbean island nation Curaçao, with a population of about 156,000, led by Dick Advocaat, secured its first-ever World Cup ticket by pulling off a major surprise in the CONCACAF qualifiers, but showed an unstable form before the tournament, losing 4-1 to Scotland and beating weak neighbor Aruba 4-0 in their preparations. Most of Curaçao's squad consists of players who compete in the lower leagues of the Netherlands and has never played an official match against a European country before. With a 94.3% chance of winning, facing their much stronger opponent, Curaçao's chances seem quite slim

I strongly predict that Germany will win this match with a clear dominance. Germany will not ease off to secure goal difference before facing tougher opponents like Ivory Coast and Ecuador later in the tournament. If an early goal is scored, the scenario of the match ending with a very clear and different scoreline, such as 4-0 or 5-0, and Germany starting the tournament with 3 points is highly likely. I foresee a result in favor of Germany.
