Shielded Labs discovered a critical bug in the Orchard privacy pool on the Zcash network. The vulnerability could have led to the issuance of an unlimited number of counterfeit, untraceable ZEC tokens.
The bug existed since Orchard's activation in 2022, but was only discovered in May using Anthropic's Opus 4.8. The bug was urgently fixed.
Amid this news and overall market weakness, the coin's price plummeted by 40%.
