🚀 What happened, and why is this such a major step?
DTCC is the backbone of the U.S. financial market. They handle clearing and settlement for the vast majority of stocks and bonds (in their DTC depository, assets worth over $114 trillion are held).
Now they have officially announced plans to move real assets (RWA — Real World Assets) to the public blockchain Stellar.
What exactly are they tokenizing: The most liquid traditional assets. This includes stocks from the Russell 1000 index, large ETF funds, and U.S. Treasuries.
Why they chose Stellar: For DTCC, it’s critically important to have fast, low-cost, and secure transactions, but most importantly—built-in mechanisms at the base layer for control and compliance with regulatory requirements (compliance), which are implemented in Stellar as native market primitives, rather than through complex smart contracts (as in Ethereum).
Regulatory groundwork: This move became possible because in December 2025 the SEC issued DTCC a special no-action letter (No-Action Letter), allowing them to create services for asset tokenization.
📅 Implementation timeline
July – October 2026: DTCC launches the first closed transactions and the full launch of its tokenization platform (Canton Network was the first to be connected).
First half of 2027: Official launch and availability of tokenized assets directly within the Stellar network.
