ME News message: On April 17 (UTC+8), Sony’s on-chain business head for its Ethereum Layer 2 network, Soneium, said that Sony’s blockchain business is moving from the experimental stage to the commercialization stage. The former “Advanced Infrastructure Business Exploration Department” has been renamed the “On-Chain Business Strategy Department,” repositioning blockchain as a core part of the company’s strategic focus. This year, Sony will focus on exploring the on-chain integration of IP in the IP sector, using Soneium to build on-chain IP infrastructure for core assets such as music, animation, games, movies, and sports, while related legal and regulatory framework design is currently underway in parallel. In addition, Sony is preparing to set up a GP/LP-type investment fund, aiming to accelerate investment in Soneium applications and entertainment sectors by introducing external capital. At present, its incubation program SPARK has received more than 2,000 DApp applications, and 23 projects have already received investment. Sony’s ecosystem also includes the cryptocurrency exchange S.BLOX, which aims to connect fiat currency and digital assets. (Source: Foresight News)

Soneium's IP on the blockchain is indeed impressive; transparent music copyright can solve longstanding industry issues.

Putting sports assets on the blockchain is quite interesting. After collectible player cards, is virtual ticket trading next?

GP/LP funds raise external capital, Sony probably also fears burning through their own reserves.

Only 23 applications out of over 2,000 submissions; this screening process is even tougher than taking a civil service exam.
