📍U.S.-China Meeting: Stage Diplomacy, the Main Story Still About Taiwan

📌 After a grand reception, during the first bilateral talks at the Great Hall of the People:
🟠 The two sides agreed to build the US-China relationship framework along the path of “constructive strategic stability” over the next three years.
-> China wants to frame the competition: Still competing, bargaining over interests, but not crossing the line into conflict.
🟠 Xi Jinping calls Taiwan the most important issue in US-China relations, Xi says "if the US mishandles it, the two countries could fall into conflict," "China wants the US to clarify that it does not support Taiwan independence."
🟠 The US side avoids mentioning Taiwan in the official statement. Trump did not respond when asked by reporters. Instead, the US mentioned easier-to-agree issues: US business markets, agriculture - energy, fentanyl, Iran issues.
🟠 Both sides are considering reducing tariffs on about $30B goods. Trump said on Fox that China will buy 200 Boeing aircraft, although earlier expectations were 500 planes.
🟠 The US has authorized Nvidia to sell H200 chips to about 10 Chinese companies, up to 75,000 units per company.
-> The US wants to keep China within Nvidia’s controlled ecosystem, while Beijing quietly pushes for semiconductor independence.
🟠 Trump invites Xi to visit Washington on September 24.
Just the first day of the visit, Taiwan issue is temporarily set aside, as difficult issues are often postponed to the last day.
