Recently, someone asked me how to transfer tokens to Arbitrum One, and it made me realize that quite a few people are still unfamiliar with cross-chain bridging. To be honest, at first I also thought it was a bit complicated, but after actually doing it a few times, I found it’s really super simple.
First, let’s talk about why you’d go through the trouble. As a Layer 2 on Ethereum, Arbitrum One’s biggest advantage is that the Gas fees are extremely low, and transactions are also much faster. If you often tinker with DeFi or NFTs, or you simply want to reduce transaction costs, bridging to Arbitrum One will make the experience much smoother. I’ve used it for a while, and I truly saved a lot on Gas fees.
The principle of bridging is basically moving tokens from the Ethereum mainnet to Arbitrum One, and vice versa. The official Arbitrum Bridge provides the safest way to do this, operating based on smart contracts—so you don’t have to worry about security issues.
Let me briefly walk you through the process. First, connect your wallet to the Arbitrum Bridge page, and the system will automatically recognize which chain you’re currently on. Then, choose the token you want to transfer—such as ETH, ARB, or USDC—and enter the amount. If you’re starting from the Ethereum mainnet, you’ll need to pay Gas fees; this will vary depending on network congestion. It’s recommended to do it when traffic is lower to save a bit of money. After confirming the transaction, the tokens will appear on Arbitrum One quickly, and you can use them directly.
The reverse process is similar: transfer tokens from Arbitrum One back to Ethereum. However, there’s one important point to note—withdrawals have a seven-day challenge period, and the funds will only be finally released to the mainnet after that. This is part of Arbitrum’s security mechanism. Although the waiting time is a little long, it helps ensure the safety of your assets.
Overall, the bridging process for Arbitrum One is both straightforward and secure, and the documentation is also very complete. Once you understand the steps and the timing—especially the seven-day withdrawal delay—you can move your assets with confidence and fully enjoy Arbitrum One’s advantages of low fees and high speed. If you want to dive into the technical details, the official documentation has detailed resources you can refer to. If you’re interested, try it yourself and experience a more efficient way to trade on Arbitrum One.
