ME News Report, April 22 (UTC+8), Privacy protocol Umbra has shut down its front-end website to prevent attackers from exploiting the protocol to transfer funds stolen in recent attacks. Umbra stated that approximately $800k of stolen funds were transferred through its protocol, but the protocol itself is only used to protect the recipient’s identity, not the sender’s, and all transferred funds can be identified. This decision comes days after the Kelp protocol was attacked (with losses exceeding $280 million, suspected to be carried out by North Korean hackers), and reports indicate that attackers are attempting to bridge funds from Ethereum to Bitcoin using protocols like Umbra. Umbra said it has placed the hosted front-end into maintenance mode and will restore it after confirming it won’t hinder current recovery efforts. However, Umbra cannot prevent anyone from using its smart contracts or the open-source front-end of its self-hosted version. (Source: PANews)
