Vitalik proposes an innovative approach for mobile confirmation of multisig wallets
Vitalik recently shared his thoughts on platform X regarding the challenges of verifying multisig wallet addresses directly from a mobile device, especially in situations where the Safe app is not available. This discussion raises a major issue for users seeking to reliably validate their wallets without relying on a centralized application.
Practical solutions for verifying multisig addresses
According to reports from Odaily, Vitalik proposed a concrete method: using Etherscan to locate the concerned address and employing the 'Read Contract' function to extract data directly from the blockchain. This approach provides an effective confirmation of wallet parameters without third-party intervention. Vitalik emphasized that if applications remain open-source and pass a rigorous 'start test,' users benefit from a more transparent and reliable experience. In cases where Safe is not accessible, having alternative solutions becomes crucial to maintain signer identity verification.
The trade-off between mobile convenience and privacy protection
Recognizing security and privacy imperatives, Vitalik suggests an advanced method involving users generating and storing a 'view key' containing additional information. Block explorers could support this feature by storing these data in URL tags, ensuring they remain client-side and do not pass through external servers. This architecture respects privacy while enabling accessible confirmation from a mobile device.
Toward fully decentralized operations
However, Vitalik acknowledges the inherent risks of sharing keys via URLs or web pages. Ultimately, the evolution should lead to executing operations entirely within the wallet itself, without exposing sensitive data. This transition to fully on-chain confirmation represents the future of secure interactions with multisig wallets, eliminating intermediaries and ensuring maximum user privacy protection.
