At $63,000 BTC, are you going to sell at a loss?
First, the surface view: five weeks of sideways trading, and retail investors are nearly losing it.
BTC has traded within the $62,000-$66,000 range for five full weeks. The highs have repeatedly failed to break $65,500, while the lows stubbornly hold above $62,000. Volatility has fallen to multi-year lows, trading volume is sluggish, and even more so on weekends.
The 50-day moving average is pressing down at $63,500, while the 200-day moving average sits far above at $69,000. RSI is neutral-to-weak at 43. A direction is about to be chosen, but no one knows which way.
First: ETFs have stopped buying. This is the biggest problem.
There was a net outflow of $131 million on August 13, followed by another $56 million outflow on the 14th. The inflow momentum at the beginning of the month was abruptly interrupted. The temporary departure of major institutions such as BlackRock and Fidelity is the most direct reason for the lack of upward momentum.
The probability of the Clarity Act passing has fallen sharply on Polymarket, the SEC's crypto conference was canceled, and Cboe's application for a triple-leveraged ETF is a long-term positive but unlikely to have an impact in the short term. With no catalysts during this news vacuum, prices naturally cannot rise.
Second: Volatility has fallen this low only once before, in September 2023.
BTC volatility has fallen to multi-year lows, with 1.79 million BTC changing hands within the $62,000-$66,000 range. What does this data mean?
Those who needed to sell have mostly finished selling
Those who needed to buy have mostly finished buying
The market is waiting for a direction. Whichever way it goes, it will be a violent move.
Third: The fundamental reason it cannot fall further.
The $62,000 level has been tested five times and held five times. The Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund is holding, Strategy is holding, and even if BlackRock's ETF is seeing net outflows, its total size remains in the hundreds of millions.
More importantly: short-term holders' cost basis is around $62,000. This means that breaking below $62,000 could trigger large-scale panic selling, but conversely, it also means that—as long as it holds—this is strong support.
The macro environment is neutral-to-bullish: July CPI met expectations, the probability of a rate cut in September is 40%, and rates have most likely peaked. Under a soft-landing outlook, risk assets are headed higher over the medium to long term.
The bulls and bears are facing off. You decide.
On one side:
Five tests of $62,000 held, confirming strong support
Extremely low volatility, with historical patterns pointing to a major move
The rate-cut cycle is approaching, with a liquidity inflection point near
Spot ETFs have accumulated more than $50 billion in inflows, providing a solid foundation
The Fear Index is at 36, with sentiment bottoming
On the other side:
Continuous ETF outflows, with institutional buying absent
Policy tailwinds facing obstacles, with no short-term catalysts
Weekend liquidity drying up, making wicks more likely
A break below $62,000 could trigger cascading liquidations
The 200-day moving average at $69,000 remains far out of reach
Key levels
Resistance above: $63,500 → $64,500-$65,500 → $68,000-$70,000
Support below: $62,000-$62,500 → $60,000-$61,500 → $58,000
Trading strategy
Short-term traders:
Open a small long position in the $62,500-$63,000 range, targeting $63,500-$64,000, with a stop-loss at $62,000. If a rebound to $63,500-$64,000 meets resistance, consider a small short position, targeting $62,500.
Swing traders:
Go long if volume pushes price above $63,500 and the level holds on a retest, targeting $66,000-$68,000. If volume pushes price below $62,500, reduce positions and wait, then reassess around $60,000.
Long-term believers:
Use dollar-cost averaging in batches below $62,000. The rate-cut cycle + post-halving scarcity + continued institutional inflows mean the medium- to long-term logic remains unchanged.
BTC now looks just like September 2023—
Extremely low volatility, five weeks of sideways trading, and everyone thinks “this time is different.”
History never simply repeats itself, but it always rhymes.
If BTC breaks below $62,000, will you sell at a loss or add to your position?
