Japan 5-Year Yield Reaches All-Time High as 10-Year Hits 1996 Levels
Japan’s 5-year government bond yield increased 2 basis points to 2.18%, an all-time high. On the day the 10-year yield increased 2.5 basis points to 2.945%, its highest level since September 1996. The change shows a mix of rising expectations for Bank of Japan rate hikes, pressure from the global bond sell-off and ongoing domestic inflation. All of these are causing a re-pricing of Japanese government bonds.
