After reading the Fed minutes, it’s basically best not to get your hopes up too much about a rate cut in September.
At the July FOMC meeting, 9 officials voted to keep rates unchanged, while 3 even advocated a 25-basis-point hike. The market is now pricing in roughly a 67% probability that rates will remain unchanged in September.
Why are they being so firm?
The core issue is still inflation, especially oil prices.
If oil prices remain elevated, inflation won’t come down, making it difficult for the Fed to signal a more accommodative stance to the market.
