When opening a futures position, choosing 20x or 50x leverage first does not answer how much the trade could lose. You should calculate the position size based on your exit point.
For a USDT-margined linear contract, suppose the coin is priced at 100U and you go long, planning to exit at 98U—a 2% price difference. If you plan to risk 20U on the price movement, the notional position size would be about 20 ÷ 2% = 1000U, equivalent to 10 coins.
