Why can your account's overall risk far exceed expectations even when you've only made a few trades?
Many traders review their positions one by one but overlook a more important question: Do these trades share a common source of risk?
Suppose you hold long positions in BTC, ETH, and SOL at the same time. On the surface, you hold three different assets; but if all of them are affected by a broad market downturn, tightening liquidity, or declining risk appetite, all three trades could lose money together.
These are three frequently overlooked issues in portfolio risk.
I. Correlation risk: Differ

This whole BTC move was in the script from start to finish.
The short I placed at 83300 was exactly the right call. My stop at 84500 got swept by a wick that peaked at 84808. I accept the loss— a stop is a stop.
But look back at that wick. What was it for?
There was a huge overhang of trapped holders above 84000; nobody charging up there could absorb it. The big players knew that better than anyone. So it wasn’t a real breakout attempt—it was a push up to clear out short stops and lure in people chasing longs.
