Trump has not signed the ethics bill; negotiations on the "Clarity Act" are at a standstill
PANews July 21日消息, according to The Block, last Thursday, President Trump held a meeting with Republican senators Bernie Moreno and Cynthia Lummis, as well as White House crypto adviser Patrick Witt, to discuss the ethical provisions of the “Clarity Act,” but the meeting details were not disclosed. Industry insiders said Trump did not sign the ethical provisions during the meeting, and the two sides did not reach agreement on any provisions. There are concerns that the provisions could negatively affect Trump in the future. Lummis’s spokesperson declined to comment, and Moreno’s team and the White House did not respond.
The ethical provisions are one of the final hurdles for the “Clarity Act” to pass. They aim to restrict senior officials such as the president, vice president, and members of Congress from profiting from digital assets during their time in office. The core controversy centers on Trump’s meme coin and its related company, World Liberty Financial. Politico previously reported that the current text has not won support from Democrats. Senator Ruben Gallego said that Democrats would not vote without strong ethical provisions. The bill text is expected to be released in the coming days. The Senate needs to vote before the first week of August, but industry insiders say the text may not be published until an ethics agreement is reached.
