PANews July 17—According to CNBC, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is investigating a potential insider trading incident involving prediction market platform Kalshi. A staffer allegedly responsible for operating President Trump’s teleprompter has been accused of placing bets in related prediction event contracts. The report says the staffer may have used information from advance access to Trump’s public remarks to bet on whether specific Trump-related statements would be released or would include certain phrasing on the Kalshi platform. Currently, the CFTC is investigating whether the relevant trades involved the use of non-public information and whether they violated prediction market trading rules. The probe has once again drawn market attention to the risk of insider trading in prediction markets. As platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket have seen rapid growth in trading volume, prediction contracts covering political, economic, and public events have increasingly come under scrutiny from regulators.
