Spain vs Argentina Final: Legends Are Split Before MetLife Showdown 🇪🇸🇦🇷
The 2026 World Cup final is not just Spain vs Argentina on the pitch, it's also a war of predictions between legends off the pitch.
While the whole world is waiting for the final at MetLife Stadium on July 19, former stars can't agree on who lifts the trophy.
Former Germany star Dietmar Hamann is leaning towards Argentina. Speaking ahead of the final, he said Argentina holds a slight advantage because of Messi's ability to decide a final on his own. He also admitted Spain's semi-final was incredible, saying Spain dismantled France in a way he never thought possible.
On the other side, German legend Oliver Kahn has a different reading. Kahn described Argentina as "bulletproof" and the only team capable of stopping Spain, but he confessed he had considered Spain as favourites even before the tournament started.
Spain's own legend Iker Casillas is much more direct. After Argentina qualified, the former Real Madrid captain posted that Spain will be fighting for their second star while questioning Argentina's chances of adding a fourth star.
Former England striker Robbie Fowler also gave a tactical breakdown. He called it a perfect clash of styles, Spain's disciplined and purposeful possession against Argentina's resilience and Messi's unpredictable brilliance.
This clash is even more special because it's a generational battle: 19-year-old Lamine Yamal, Spain's prodigy, against his childhood hero, 39-year-old Lionel Messi.
The Superstition Around The Final
Off the field, Argentina President Javier Milei is taking no risks. He will not attend the final in New Jersey and will watch from the Olivos residence instead, because he watched all seven games from home and Argentina won every one.
Like most Argentines, he follows "cábalas" - he will keep wearing the same thick jacket with a petroleum logo because he believes taking it off against Switzerland brought a goal against Argentina. It's the same reason why no sitting president has attended a national team game since 1990, when Menem was labeled as a jinx after the loss to Cameroon.
My Market View
The supercomputer data gives Spain a 59% chance to win and Argentina 40%, and prediction markets have Spain as slight favourites.
But finals are not won by supercomputers. Spain has conceded only once in the whole tournament, which shows their defensive control. Argentina has the mentality to survive any pressure.
My Prediction: Spain 2-1 Argentina. Tight, tactical, and decided after 75 minutes.
