PANews July 17, citing Bloomberg, reported that Google has already fallen behind its original plan by several months in rolling out its most powerful flagship AI model, Gemini 3.5 Pro. The company is trying to enhance its capabilities—especially in coding—but progress has not met expectations. Insiders say the delay has sparked frustration among engineers, AI researchers, and management, with concerns that Google may lose its edge in competition with Anthropic and OpenAI. Multiple Google departments are involved in preparing AI products, spanning a broad portfolio such as Search, Maps, and YouTube, making the decision-making process more complex. A Google spokesperson said it is testing the 3.5 Pro and an upgraded Flash model, and is communicating with the U.S. government on model testing and safety frameworks.
