PANews July 17, according to Bitcoin.com, U.S. lawmakers from both parties have introduced a bill requiring online sports betting and prediction market platforms to verify age via facial scanning before users log in or place bets. The proposal is led by U.S. Representative Josh Gottheimer, and was jointly introduced by eight bipartisan lawmakers. Gottheimer said the move is intended to prevent minors from using their parents’ or relatives’ accounts to access gambling platforms. The technology estimates age by analyzing facial structure and patterns, but does not store identity or biometric information. NIST evaluations show that, for six age-estimation algorithms, the average error is 3.1 years, and the error rate for female faces is typically higher than for male faces. The bill has not yet released the full text, enforcement agencies, penalties, or effective date, and it also does not specify procedures for users to challenge incorrect determinations.
