The team is bringing to an end a long period during which it has been led by the former captain Deschamps. As a mentor, he managed to repeat the achievements he made as a player by lifting the World Cup trophy in 2018. And, of course, in the end (and Didier first made it clear that he would retire this summer), they would want to secure a victory.

For a long time at the World Cup, the footballers looked very solid. Especially Mbappé, who scored a lot—often making doubles. They managed to reach the semifinals only by winning—no one else could boast that—and the squad started to be seen as the #1 favorite. But then they ran into Spain. Even there everything could have turned out differently, but the opponent punished mistakes (it’s worth noting the penalty that Digne earned!), and Kylian and the rest never scored even once. So there won’t be a third consecutive final.
