PANews July 18. According to Tencent Technology, at the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) Science and Technology Frontier Forum, Turing Award laureate Yoshua Bengio issued a warning via remote connection: “AI lowers the threshold for wrongdoing and raises the upper limit of harm.”

In recent years, this forward-looking “AI godfather” has been committed to addressing the safety challenges brought by AI. The LawZero project led by Bengio is working to build protective systems that can identify and stop harmful behaviors such as AI deception and self-protection. The international AI safety report led by him also reaches a consistent conclusion: current safety measures can no longer keep up with the breakneck pace of AI capability growth.
