you keep asking God

for a sign.
something loud.
something undeniable.
a voice in the storm.
but elijah stood through
the wind, the earthquake,
and the fire —
and God was in none of them.
He came after,
in a whisper.
maybe the reason
you cannot hear Him
is that you are listening
for thunder,
and He has been speaking
at the volume
of a father
