Abstract generation in progress
PANews July 17 news, according to Bloomberg, China’s AI startup Moonshot released its next-generation model Kimi K3, claiming that it has already surpassed Anthropic Opus 4.8 on some cutting-edge benchmark tests and is approaching top-tier model levels such as OpenAI, sparking market concerns about AI capital expenditure and chip demand. After the news was released, the Bloomberg Asia Semiconductor Index fell by more than 6%, Nasdaq 100 futures dropped by about 2%, and it is seen as the next wave of “Chinese model shock” following DeepSeek V4. Kimi K3 is an open-weight model with a parameter scale of about 2.8 trillion, supports a context of about 1 million tokens, and is priced roughly the same as Anthropic Sonnet, but it is claimed that its total cost is about half of Claude Opus and GPT-5.5. Chinese peers Z.AI’s share price in Hong Kong stocks plunged by 28%, MiniMax Group fell 16%, and SoftBank fell 9% in Tokyo.
