PANews July 17 news: According to Xinhua News Agency, on the morning of July 17, President Xi Jinping attended the opening ceremony of the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and the high-level meeting on global AI governance at the Shanghai World Convention and Exhibition Center and delivered a keynote speech. Xi Jinping said that with joint efforts from all parties, the World AI Cooperation Organization has emerged in Shanghai. This is a major initiative by the Chinese side in response to calls from the Global South, and it actively promotes the development and governance of AI by uniting the international community. It will become an important milestone in the history of AI development.

Xi Jinping announced that to further support global AI development and advance global AI capability building, over the next five years, China will provide 5,000 spots for specialized AI topic research and training for developing countries; build international AI application cooperation centers for ASEAN, the Arab League, the African Union, CELAC, the SCO, and BRICS; and promote the intelligent meteorological early warning solution “Mazu” for implementation and application in 30 countries, standing watch over a myriad of households’ lights and safeguarding lasting peace across the seas.
