ME AI news: Venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) announced an investment in AI agent security startup Runta. The company aims to help enterprises manage and constrain AI agents “like raising children.” The specific investment amount has not been disclosed yet. Runta founder Guanlan Dai previously worked on Cloudflare’s technical team and served as founding engineer at API connectivity startup Kong. He said that AI agents share similarities with growing children: they have the ability to execute tasks autonomously, but they also need boundaries, supervision, and permission management. Dai believes that, just as parents protect children at home and restrict access to credit cards, companies also need to limit which important files AI agents can access, the range of actions they are allowed to perform, and the maximum amount of funds they can spend at one time. Runta is developing a set of “AI agent guardianship” infrastructure to help enterprises manage AI Agent permissions, security risks, and behavioral boundaries—preventing autonomous AI systems from causing data leaks, incorrect actions, or financial losses while carrying out tasks. As enterprises increasingly deploy AI agents with autonomous decision-making capabilities, how to establish a trusted and secure agent management system is becoming a new infrastructure need. Runta hopes to become the “parental controls layer” for the AI agent era, providing enterprises with capabilities such as agent identity management, permission control, risk limits, and operational monitoring. Industry observers believe that as AI agents evolve from simple assistants into autonomous entities that can operate enterprise systems, handle transactions, and execute complex tasks, the infrastructure market around agent security, governance, and compliance may see rapid growth.
